More details about Xobni for the BlackBerry

A few weeks ago at RIM’s Wireless Enterprise Symposium, we confirmed our plans to make a mobile version of Xobni available later this summer. We appreciate the feedback & excitement from everyone and we’re looking forward to getting it into your hands (literally).

This morning, during Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz’s keynote address at JavaOne, Alan Brenner (RIM’s SVP of BlackBerry Platforms) showed off Xobni for the BlackBerry. Alan highlighted how this will not be just another stand-alone application on your BlackBerry; Xobni Mobile will be deeply integrated into your mobile experience.  For example, you will be able utilize the power of Xobni’s comprehensive people search directly from the completely familiar BlackBerry “Compose Email” screen.

Why do you need another addressbook?  We have all been on the go, away from the office, desperate to email someone that we know we have been in touch with in the past.  Today you might be stuck fruitlessly hunting for their details (or calling a coworker to look up the information).  With Xobni Mobile, just start a new email message as you normally would, then select the Xobni bar and type in the first letter(s) of their first name, last name, or company name.  Instantly you’ll see results from everyone who has ever emailed you, ranked by importance to you (with profile photos & job titles too!).  Just select the desired person and their email address will be placed into the To/Cc/Bcc field of your choice.

Because Xobni scans all of your emails for contact information, Xobni’s people search often contains 10-30 times the number of contacts that are in a typical Contacts list, and requires no work to maintain.

More details will come further down the road, but we wanted to let you – our beloved Xobni users – know about the latest in our efforts to allow you to take Xobni with you everywhere, saving you precious time when it really counts.  For more updates, please sign up to be notified when Xobni mobile is available here.

That’s awesome news! Way to stay focused on the corporate user and provide an experience on a platform that demands and could benefit a great deal from your featureset! Rock on!

How about Symbian (I personally use Exchage Email on a Nokia E-66), Windows Mobile and iPhone platforms?

Hello, could you please provide the technical installation requirements for your product. In particular in looking for information on what, if anything, needs to be done to the Outlook/Bes (blackberry Server) environment.

Also our environmnet archives email messages, and all PST files have been eliminated via the archiving tool we use. We also have a 3rd party add-in to our Outlook environment that is from Opentext that is called EDocs. We have noted several issues when using other Outlook add-on in concert with the eDocs product. Would you know if there are any issues in using your product with this add-on?

I am hoping to see a Windows Mobile client, this seems to be a natural progression considering Xobni is rooted in Outlook.

I think that the BlackBerry is the first device that should have the application first, since they are the device most business professionals that would be “power” Outlook users would most likely use. The iPhone is for a more youthful audience; I don’t know very many serious Outlook users with iPhone’s personally, but maybe a future consideration. In the meantime, I love Xobni and can’t wait for the BlackBerry application to come out soon!

I too would have thought that a Xobni for Windows Mobile would be an excellent add on and given that Xobni is designed as an add-on for Outlook for the PC are we going to see this?

  18. 18 Denni September 3, 2009 at 3:29 pm

Hello, My name’s Denni n I’m an owner of Blackberry Blog named BestBlackberry
    I have to admit that the Xobni is really an interesting app. However, I have a few questions;
1 Is it working on the latest Blackberry OS?
2 Which Blackberry are compatible? Is Tour compatible?
3 Where can I find the installation instruction?
4 I’m planning to put this app on my blog.. can you send me more details on the app to my email?

    Thanks 🙂

    Windows Mobile would be great

  20. 20 Coffee-Turtle September 8, 2009 at 9:56 am

Yesterday was the official end of summer. We haven’t heard any more updates since June. Would love to know, please, how are things progressing?

Thank you for such an outstanding product for Outlook!

  21. 21 Greg September 17, 2009 at 5:56 pm

The comment stating the “…iPhone is for a more youthful audience; I don’t know very many serious Outlook users with iPhone’s personally” is definitely not factual. I know more people in the business world with an iPhone (not Blackberries) because the iPhone is so much easier to use and doesn’t require BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server).

My vote is for iPhone… Don’t discount one phone even if your preference is for another phone. There are many professionals who would much rather use an iPhone instead of a Blackberry and would be willing to pay for this app if it was developed.

  27. 27 Joseph Kingsbury November 11, 2009 at 6:08 pm

The lack of feedback from Xobni – on its own blog – about the release of this product is disappointing. Imagine a company fortunate enough to have passionately interested customers…and they ignore them?

  28. 28 Gustavo November 24, 2009 at 11:31 am
