Xobni & Outlook 2010 – Together at last!

by Britton Glasser

This week is a big one for us, as we launch the Xobni for Outlook 2010 campaign to go with the product launch/review posted last week.  For all of you in the Seattle/Redmond area, you will see the sky graced, the buses flanked, the radio waves singing and the sign spinners shaking with nothing but Xobni love.  Now Xobni and Outlook 2010 are together again.  At last.

Why did we launch this product with such fanfare?  The answer is easy.  Microsoft employees are some of Xobni’s best customers as they live and die in Outlook email.  We wanted to ensure they knew they could reunite with Xobni, now that it’s compatible with the Outlook 2010 software.

For all you folks in the Northwest, we have created a little fun… Take photos of the Xobni’s you see in the public; the plane, the bus, the sign spinners and post them to the Facebook Xobni Fan page – We will be randomly giving away t-shirts to some of the people who submit a photo.

There are also some great new features for Outlook 2003 and 2007, so take a look at this post for all the detail!

And don’t forget to download the latest version today!

Nice of you to fly a plane around using tons of fuel and polluting the atmosphere pointlessly on Earth Day.
Yeah, saw it flying here in Redmond. Looked for the site JUST to make this point in fact.
Maybe that should have been rethought?!

Hi Kaos – We agree completely with you which is why we have purchased carbon offsets for the plane as well as for the Microsoft employees who drive to work. Happy Earth Day!

One question I have about Xobni and you guys may have to think about.

Do you plan to release a French/Italian/Spanish/German/Chinese/Japanese version of Xobni?

Well if you are planning for an international market, you may have to do a translation job cause a lot of people do not speak English or have a very bad English.

But if do not plan for an international market (which is a shame) then forget about this question.

    regards from England

I’m running xobni on outlook 2010/win 7, and have discovered that it disables many of the dropdowns from the ribbon. I’ve disabled the add-in for now, but is this a known issue, and is there a fix in the works?

    Hi Doug,

Thanks for reporting this! I’m glad to hear that disabling AutoSuggest and restarting Outlook fixed the issue for now. We are working on creating a permanent fix!

Great to see the 2010 support. It’s looking good except that sometimes Xobni seems to cause perf issues. Is it indexing while I’m trying to use Outlook? Sometimes the HDD light will be on solid which takes away from the UX.

Xobni dll is in the thread stack when checking it all out in procexp

We have an updated build that resolves the AutoSuggest issues associated with 2010. Please try installing the this build.

@JasonG: If this is taking place after the initial indexing, during which Xobni performance may be a bit slow, there may be something else going on. We tend to see this if the indexer is hitting data inconsistency. Can you please run Inspector X and submit a support case describing what you did, and the results. We will help you out!
